Our founder Katie Perry has been nominated for the 2023 Women Changing the World Awards for her work with Australian-made, sustainable and ethical fashion label, Katie Perry.

The Women Changing the World Awards presented by Oprah Winfrey’s all-time favourite guest, Dr. Tererai Trent, celebrate and recognize women achieving outstanding success in areas such as sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership, advocacy, tech and product development.

After working as a stylist, manager and buyer for labels and stores such as Brown’s, South Molton St London, Jag, Oroton and David Jones, Katie gained valuable insight into the business and commercial side of the fashion world and finally made the decision to follow her dreams of creating an Aussie-made fashion label. Katie says starting her own label was a natural progression for her and something she had always aspired to do.

“Fashion runs through my blood. My great grandfather was a wool merchant and my mother worked closely with the Benetton brothers. My mother also has a very strong entrepreneurial streak and I admired that in her growing up; it’s what I knew. I hope my passion for pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo to create something that’s accessible, inclusive, sustainable and a better way forward for our planet will rub off on my own children, too,”

This is a  label that puts people and the planet first and is about creating a lasting legacy.  The brands heritage is steeped in sustainable and renewable fabrics such as merino wool and 16 years on they are still manufacturing locally in Sydney, Australia.

Dr Tererai Trent’s powerful call to action through these awards aims to awaken hearts, give permission to recapture dreams and inspire the women of the world to come together to forge a brighter path for all.

It can be challenging to create change in the world and Katie Perry gives this advice for others thinking about following their calling to make a difference. ”I believe the success comes from continuing to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. Don’t give up and keep believing in the impact you want to make “

In the past 6 months this sustainable fashion label has planted 100 trees, rescued 487 plastic bottles from the ocean and saved .03 tonnes of carbon.

She is committed to continuing to make an impact through her work and her vision for the future is to prove that a fashion label can have positive on the planet and its people.
